What is a Favicon?

logosF.Y.I.:   Favicon (pronounced fav-eye-con) is short for "Favorites Icon"
Favicon is the java icon generator. In Internet Explorer 5.0 and above, you can customize the Icon next to your bookmarked web site to be your own customized logo.  Hence, when people look at their bookmarks they will be drawn to your web page because of the beautiful logo next to your bookmark.  In prior versions of "IE", the only logo looked like: Internet Explorer's logo.
Currently, this is not available in Netscape.

To design favicon you need first to transfer "BMP" file into "ICO" type file and then make a HTML code as you can see below. There are some "ICO" file makers which you can find on the NET.
I have already designed Georgian Flag "Favicon"
What you have to do is just add this small HTML code on your web site:

<HEAD>
<LINK REL="SHORTCUT ICON" HREF="http://www.sisauri.tripod.com/Geofavicon.ico">
<TITLE>Your Home Page</TITLE>
</HEAD>

The logo will appear in multiple places and will help you gain name and logo recognition:

Location #1 - in the favorites directory in your web browser:

Location #2 - in the favorites directory located off the Windows(tm) Start Button:

If the visiter bookmarks the site, clicks start, favorties, holds down control, then clicks on the bookmark then drags it to the desktop, it copys the icon as a short cut.
